“Can't you recognize the human in the inhuman?”

For a class project, I created a design for a staged version of The Martian Chronicles, by Ray Bradbury. Through a series of short stories Bradbury outlines martian exploration, followed by colonization, and finally the extinction of the human race in the year 2026.
The design attempted to subvert the sleek futurism of the Science Fiction genre by focusing on themes of domesticity. The Martian landscape is playfully translated into a deep shag carpet. Terraforming is visualized by adding bright red houseplants.
